Quid magis est saxo durum, quid mollius unda? Dura tamen molli saxa cavantur aqua.

Beneficiation of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW)

The construction sector is responsible for the generation of huge volumes of materials  which are heterogeneous in nature, composition and size. Accordingly, the landfilling of the debris resulting from the demolition of obsolete structures represents an important cost issue in the life cycle of the building work, besides representing a loss of resources that could be processed and reused by the construction industry, thus avoiding the further depletion of natural reserves. Nowadays, the interest in the recovery of inert components of Construction and Demolition Waste is enforced by a specific legislation at European and national levels, according to which the utilization of recycled aggregates obtained by the suitable treatment of demolition rubble is rendered mandatory to the enterprises and contractors operating in the realization of private and public works. According to the positive results of tests carried out by the AQUAVIS team at the DICAAR’s Laboratories, High Pressure WaterJet is a reliable candidate technology for the recovery of quality aggregates free from cement residues.
